life and love

So we go on everyday thinking things are fine and real. Then something has to happen to let you know you need to be really real again. Why do we hide so much even from the people who love us most? Is it an innate defense mechanism in all of us that we have to overcome? Or is it specific to our personalities? I'm glad we're not on this earth alone, that we do have people to love us and that we can love in return. I'm glad of the difficult times because it's then that we see the real person, the true love or true pain or true hope. When someone you really care about is hurting, at least you know they're being honest with you. Then the healing process can begin. It's nice to be able to be strong for someone when they can't be strong for themselves because we all know we've had times where we've had to lean on someone else. A man with a beautiful voice sings:

"The greatest thing
you'll ever learn
is just to love
and be loved
in return."
